Two weeks after accepting the resignation of its top administrator, the Lackawanna School Board unanimously agreed Wednesday to accept the resignation of its second-highest administrator.

No reason was offered why Patricia Roach, assistant superintendent for business, has decided to leave the district nine months after she was appointed to the position. She declined to provide an explanation.

Dec. 1, the board unanimously accepted the resignation of Superintendent Frederick A. Wille, who was first appointed by the board in February 2008 to serve as the district’s interim superintendent following the retirement of Paul G. Hashem. The board later approved Wille’s status as superintendent and in April agreed to extend his contract through July 31, 2012.

Wille on Wednesday said his decision to depart was based on family considerations. He had recently retired as a district superintendent with the Monroe County Board of Cooperative Educational Services when he was tapped for the Lackawanna post on an interim basis. Wille said he provided a full explanation for his decision on the school district’s Web site at

www.lackawannaschools.org

. Both Wille and Roach, who came to the district in March from the Patchogue- Medford School District in Suffolk County, have agreed to continue to serve in their respective positions until Feb. 1, if necessary.

Meanwhile, the board Wednesday unanimously appointed former Eden School Superintendent Robert E. Zimmerman to serve as superintendent of Lackawanna on an interim basis, Jan. 25 through June 20.

Zimmerman will be paid $500 per day. Zimmerman started his career in education as a teacher in 1973, retired from Eden in April 2006 after 5z years in the position. Prior to that, Zimmerman had served as superintendent of the Panama School District in Chautauqua County.

More recently, he had been called out of retirement to serve as interim superintendent of the Depew School District and was until last month the interim superintendent of the Maryvale School District in Cheektowaga.
