The Erie County Sheriff’s Office will collect $440,000 from the federal government to assist in security along the county’s portion of the international border.

The Sheriff’s Office, which can patrol the border with boats and a helicopter, will coordinate with federal agencies.

Sheriff’s officials are reserving about $190,000 of the grant to pay overtime wages, and the rest is to go for assorted types of equipment.

Meanwhile, the office has received Legislature approval to spend $127,000 from its seized asset fund on assorted departmental needs, including snow tires, travel to training events and the purchase of 22 Tasers.
