A Buffalo man who could face a death sentence for a drug-related homicide was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for the shooting death of a motorist three years ago.

Kevin Allen, 29, of Sunnyside Place, will begin serving that sentence in 2017, after he completes his 10-year sentence for an earlier home invasion.

A jury convicted Allen and Rickie “Rock” Scott of second-degree murder and weapons counts in the May 21, 2006, death of Lamar D. Williams. Allen told State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns he felt sorry for Williams’ family but continued to insist he did not commit the crime.

“I hold no regrets because I’m still innocent,” Allen said. As he was being taken from court at about 10 a. m., Allen called out to his wife and sisters, “I’ll be back.”

Scott is scheduled to be sentenced Monday by Burns. Scott allegedly shot Williams, 21, in the face as Williams drove down Pearl Street in a minivan that resembled the vehicle of the intended victim of a contract killing.

Prosecutors Lawrence M. Schwegler and Mara L. McCabe told the judge Wednesday that Allen supplied the handgun and pointed out the wrong car before Scott, 22, of Bailey Avenue, shot Williams.

Allen’s lawyer, Michael G. O’Rourke, stressed to the judge that during two jury trials in the murder case, including a mistrial last summer, the evidence was clear that Allen “was not the shooter.”

Allen and three other men were named in a federal indictment involving murders and other crimes on the city’s East Side from 2003 until 2005.
