OAHiiO (The Good Path) Support Group, for Native Americans and their families in Erie County and surrounding territories with mental or physical disabilities, chemical dependencies or addictions, will hold its monthly meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. Western New York Independent Living Inc. offers the Release Anguish and Paralysis Support Group from 1 to 2:30 p. m. Thursday in Mental Health PEER Connection, 3108 Main St. The group helps individuals learn coping skills to deal with grief and loss in their lives. For information, call 836-0822, Ext. 177.

VA Western New York Healthcare System in partnership with Headway of Western New York will hold its monthly support meeting for families and caregivers of veterans who have suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, from 6:30 to 8 p. m. The National Alliance on Mental Illness in Buffalo and Erie County, an education and support organization for families of the mentally ill, will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p. m. Thursday in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4007 Main St., Amherst. For information, call 832-4035.

The Just Chillin’ program at Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled offers individuals the opportunity to explore their interests one-on-one with staff and design their own program with times and dates. The program combines recreational activities with practical applications in everyday life. For information, call Louisa Hall at 896-2180, Ext. 123.

Independent Living of Niagara County is offering “Women to Women Empowerment,” an encouragement and companionship support group for women with disabilities, from 1 to 2:30 p. m. Friday at 746 Portage Road, Niagara Falls. Discussion topics will include personal development, independent living skills, self advocacy, communication skills, self esteem and self confidence, health and wellness. Western New York Independent Living Inc. is offering a Self-Defense Awareness Group, specifically designed for personal protection and confidence- building for people with disabilities, at noon Friday in its facility at 3108 Main St. The group will provide options to being mistreated and abused, address scenarios to avoid, tackle and control confrontation in realistic situations. Modified martial arts techniques will be demonstrated. For more information, call Kevin LaMar at 836-0822, Ext. 146.
