A surveillance camera posted on a Metro Bus helped Buffalo homicide detectives catch a suspect wanted in the shooting death of a 61-year-old man as he was on his way to a dialysis appointment at about 3 p. m. Aug. 13.

Adrian L. Traylor, 22, of Eagle Street, was arraigned Friday on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon on his role in the death of Larry Crosland. A bystander, Crosland was struck in the upper body by a stray bullet outside Monsignor Adamski Apartments, William and Fillmore streets, where he lived. Crosland died in Erie County Medical Center.

Detectives believe Traylor was firing at a passing vehicle, about a block away, at William and Townsend streets, with a shot hitting Crosland.

“He did not intend to hit Crosland. He fired several shots and one hit him,” Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson said.

A surveillance camera on a Metro Bus driving by the scene caught the shooting in progress, with Traylor firing the gun from a white Subaru Outback, Gipson said.

The unidentified driver of the vehicle in which Traylor was a passenger was not charged because he did not have a gun and was not intending to shoot anyone, Gipson said. The driver was helping Traylor look for people who had attacked the suspect earlier.

“Any one homicide is one too many, and all are troubling,” Gipson added. “This one was particularly troubling because it involved a senior citizen on his way to dialysis.”

The investigation was conducted by Detective Sgt. Daniel Rinaldo, and Detectives Mary Gugliuzza, Michael Acquino and Michael Mordino.
