The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency on Thursday approved one-year contracts for six of 14 human service agencies still awaiting deals with the city:

$112,604 to the Police Athletic League for youth recreation services.

$69,690 to the African Cultural Center for youth and adult cultural enrichment programs.

$87,720 to Lovejoy Elderly and Youth for human services to the elderly.

$42,573 to the William-Emslie YMCA for human services to the elderly.

$169,137 to the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Center for senior and youth services.

$54,473 to the Buffalo Urban League for counseling and outreach services to prevent mortgage foreclosures associated with predatory lending practices.

The contracts, funded in part through federal block grants, date back to May 1. The contracts were approved unanimously by the Urban Renewal Agency board without discussion.

City Finance Commissioner Janet Penksa said the remaining eight contracts will be brought to the agency board as they are completed.
