FREDONIA — Representatives from Wendel Duchscherer Architects & Engineers of Amherst will attend the Pomfret Town Board meeting at 7 p. m. Wednesday to present an update on the town’s North End Water District project, still in its infancy.

Town Supervisor Donald Steger informed the board of the upcoming engineering report Wednesday night at the board’s working meeting in Town Hall.

Also, Town Clerk Roberta Valentine told board members that in January the town will have to see that the licenses of more than 2,000 dogs in the town are renewed so that each dog wears a town dog license, not a defunct state license.

Beginning Dec. 1, the state will not license dogs, turning this responsibility over to the town clerk.

Valentine also said the state will require each town to pass a local law stating how the town’s dog licensing program will operate, including fees that will be charged. The state will also take a percentage of the total fee charged per dog license.

In other matters, Councilman Rod Pennica said National Grid took a tour of the town’s buildings recently to assess the efficiency of interior lighting fixtures. The town is hoping to take advantage of National Grid’s program, which would pay the town up to 70 percent of the cost to replace old lights with more efficient ones.

Steger said he also would like to have a service man come check the efficiency of the town hall’s heating and cooling system, which was installed in 1984. He also said the town’s wind energy regulations may be reviewed again by the town Planning Board.
