A Snyder man who once dreaded speaking in public is seeking to become the first Buffalo-area resident ever to win the Toastmasters International's convention in Palm Desert, Calif.
Kevin McCue, 50, a corporate trainer for Catholic Health System, will join eight other competitors who all earned berths in the finals of the contest after emerging from a field of 81 semifinalists.
A panel of Toastmasters judges will rate the nine finalists on speech content, organization, voice quality and gestures. The speeches must be between five and seven minutes long, with a 30-second grace period on either end. The winner walks away with a trophy and a title that often leads to invitations to speak at other events.
