ATTICA — Two sergeants and three corrections officers were injured Saturday evening at the Wyoming Correctional Facility while restraining an inmate, the state Department of Corrections reported.
Officials said Deion Brown, an inmate serving 3 1/2 years for robbery, failed to obey a direct order from a corrections officer. Brown then lunged at a sergeant who was trying to resolve the dispute and began striking him, officials said.
Another sergeant and four corrections officers responded to restrain Brown, according to a report.
The first sergeant was flown by helicopter to Erie County Medical Center where he was treated for a concussion and released. Three of the corrections officers were taken in a state vehicle to Wyoming Community Hospital, Warsaw, where they were treated for their injuries and released. One officer remained on duty.
Brown faces felony charges in the assault and has been transferred to another facility, according to a report. State police are investigating the incident.
