Wintry conditions on the I-90 between Walden Avenue and the Depew exit slowed traffic to well below the speed limit.

Long tandem tractor trailers are prohibited on the Thruway between the Pennsylvania line and Syracuse but state authorities kept it open.

The visibility was highly changeable this afternoon, and at times no snow appeared to fall, but blowing and drifting snow made it difficult to see.

The Thruway had been plowed – at one point five plows were seen driving west toward the city – but snow was falling at such a rapid pace, and was drifting, that plows had difficulty keeping up.

Traffic headed east was lighter than normal, and became even lighter past the I-290 exit.

On Genesee Street between Transit Road and the 33, thick snow had fallen faster than plows could clear it. Several businesses appeared to be closed, including a 7-11 convenience store at Genesee and Transit.

On Route 33 West between Genesee and the 198, the road was plowed and the visibility changed as snow moved in and out of the area and the winds shifted.
