If you are hoping for relief from the bitter cold, you’re going to have to wait until Saturday when temperatures will rise to around 25 degrees – balmy by current standards.

Don’t get too excited. Snow and wind is also forecast for Saturday, and the small bump in temperature will be brief.

We likely plummet next week into the single digits again.

Is there any significant relief on the horizon from the bitter cold and snow?

“Yes,” joked Jeff Wood, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “It’s called April.”

The low over the last 24 hours hit 3 degrees Fahrenheit, although it felt like minus 7 with the wind chill.

There is a chance of flurries today with a high near 7 and a low, by tonight, of around 2. New snow accumulation of around 1 inch is possible, according to the weather service.

Thursday and Friday bring fairly similar forecasts. A storm system is approaching that will make snow and high winds likely on Saturday, with the potential for blizzard conditions in some areas. Wood said it is unclear how much snow will fall but the showers are forecast to be widespread throughout the region.
