WESTFIELD – Kent Knappenberger has been named one of 10 finalists in the first-ever Grammy Music Educator of the Year Awards.
A teacher at Westfield Academy and Central School, he was nominated by some former students and was one of 30,000 music educators from the country to be nominated.
After the submission of four-minute teaching video, two detailed essays and a six-minute video about his teaching philosophy, Mr. Knappenberger was notified he was in the top 25 nominees. School officials announced today that they received word that he has been named one of the 10 finalists.
He is the only music educator from New York State in the final round. The winner will be announced in January and will attend the Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award luncheon in California.
