The state will provide $150,000 towards the planned $650,000 renovation of the Butler-Mitchell Clubhouse, 370 Massachusetts Ave., two state lawmakers announced Tuesday.
State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy and Assemblyman Sean Ryan described the club as an “important yet aging community asset” run by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Buffalo on the city’s near West Side.
The state’s $150,000 investment comes in the form of a grant provided through the Urban Initiatives program and is aimed at assuring families access to a variety of support services. They include quality child care and afterschool programs.
The planned renovation will allow the clubhouse to become a multiuse facility offering new programs to parents, families and the burgeoning refugee population in the city’s near West Side neighborhood.
