West Seneca

Start and end the week with holiday music, with a pair of concerts this evening in local churches and the West Seneca West Senior High School Chorus performing next weekend with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, 630 W. Main St., and St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 1475 Orchard Park Road.

The hour-long performance at Ebenezer will feature the church’s senior choir, handbell choir, piano/organ instrumentals and Parkside Avenue Brass. Admission is free.

St. Peter’s concert will highlight two of the church’s musical groups: “Strike the Rock,” under the direction of Mark Kasprzak, and “Chancel Choir,” under the direction of Al Plant. There’s no admission fee, but a free will donation is requested.

The West Seneca West Senior High School Chorus, under the direction of Keith Ersing, is scheduled to perform at 10:30 a.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. next Sunday in Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, as part of the annual Holiday Pops concert series. High school choruses from Oakfield and Barker central school districts also are participating.

Also this week:

• A joyful holiday remembrance service, to celebrate life and remember loved ones, begins at 3 p.m. today in Faith Mausoleum at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, 180 French Road. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Daniel J. Palys of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Elma and will feature the church’s choir. The event is free and open to the public; seating is limited.

• The West Seneca School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in room 200 at West Elementary School, 1397 Orchard Park Road.

• Chef Shannon will show you how to create simple, simply delicious hors d’oeuvres for your holiday guests from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the West Seneca Public Library, 1300 Union Road.

• Joshua Bryant, of ADP Payroll Services, is the guest speaker Tuesday morning at the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Connections Breakfast. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. in Alton’s and Columns Banquet Center, Transit Road and Seneca Street, Elma. Bryant will talk about tax and payroll changes coming in 2014.
