West Seneca

A donation from Rotary Club of West Seneca has helped build and equip a home for abandoned children in Monterrey, Mexico, with a library.

The club’s $2,000 contribution was matched by Rotary District 7090, which comprises Western New York and Southern Ontario. Rotary Club of San Nicolas de los Garza oversaw the library project.

A library crusade, which began in 2009, was the idea of Kim Wittkugel, daughter of West Seneca Rotarian Ken Kellner. Wittkugel was working as a volunteer through Back2Back, a Lutheran faith-based organization, when she discovered how many disadvantaged children never had a book.

With money from West Seneca Rotary, Wittkugel has built and equipped four libraries so far; the ribbon-cutting at El Retiro Juvenil Children’s Home in Monterrey was held earlier this month.
