A contract for garbage and recycling totes is expected to be awarded by the Town Board this week.

Six companies submitted bids last month to supply totes to the town, as well as the City of Lackawanna. The two municipalities will be the last of Buffalo’s first-ring suburbs to convert to the use of wheeled, lidded totes, which are considered an essential weapon against rodent infestations.

It was the second round of bids for the project. In late May, just two quotes were received, both of which deviated from specifications and were higher than expected. Other companies also contacted the town, saying they never received specifications in the mail.

The town is looking to buy 95-gallon totes for garbage and 65-gallon totes for recycling. Lackawanna is in the market for 95-gallon garbage totes only.

The Town Board meeting begins at 7 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 1250 Union Road.
