Veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless can get help in a variety of ways at the annual Veterans Stand Down from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Connecticut Street Armory, 184 Connecticut St.
Representatives from the VA and county and state agencies will be there to talk about benefits veterans are entitled to, including health care, disability assistance and pensions. Employers also will be on hand with job opportunities.
There also will be free lunch, free haircuts, giveaways and free testing for HIV and hepatitis C. Transportation is available. For information, call 862-8885.
The program is sponsored by the VA Health Care System of Western New York, the WNY Veterans Housing Coalition, the Veterans One-Stop Center of Western New York and the VA Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program. Stand Downs originally were started to help homeless veterans and have been expanded to reach all veterans in need.
