NEWFANE – A Newfane man was honored Sunday with the the Fire Service Community Achievement Award during a presentatiom at the Miller Hose Company picnic grounds.

Martin “Marty” Horanburg, a member of the company for nearly 50 years, received the prestigious award of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York as fellow firefighters, family members and friends looked on.

Horanburg also is active within the community, serving on the board of directors of Eastern Niagara Hospital. He is a member of Town of Newfane Business Association, Newfane Sports Booster Club and is known as the “Voice of Newfane,” as volunteer announcer for Newfane High School basketball and football games.

A Navy veteran and longtime member of Newfane Lions Club, Horanburg has been instrumental in the revival of Olcott Carousel Park. A Barker High School graduate, he was named Miller Hose Firefighter of the Year in 1981.
