Construction work is set to begin on the Kensington Expressway Monday – and that’s going to lead to night time closures of large sections of the highway, NYS Department of Transportation announced today.

The inbound – or westbound – side of Route 33 will be closed between Harlem Road (Route 240) and the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) to all traffic nightly starting Monday from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Milling and paving of the roadway is expected to last about six weeks.

The outbound – or eastbound – side of Route 33 will be closed nightly between Harlem Road (NY Route 240) and Genesee St. from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. This work on this side is expected to take about two weeks.

Detours will be posted.

The construction work is weather dependent and could be delayed due to inclement weather.

Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour.

The DOT reminded motorists that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.
