A local environmental group is pushing for the Town Board to adopt a resolution Monday night that opposes the reopening of a Sheridan Drive crematory until residents’ concerns are met.

The Clean Air Coalition of Western New York has rallied residents who say they’re fed up with smoke, odor and noise from a crematory owned by the Amigone family chain of funeral homes.

Anthony Amigone, Sr. announced Thursday he has “no immediate plans” to reopen the crematory and backed away from a proposal to move it to a northwest corner of the property. Board members do not appear united on the resolution with some supporting it and others questioning the need for it.

The Town Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday in council chambers at the municipal building, 2919 Delaware Ave. A work session begins at 4 in the second-floor conference room.
