Dr. Alan Lockwood, emeritus professor of neurology at the University at Buffalo and an expert on the health impacts of coal burning, will speak in a forum sponsored by the Clean Air Coalition at 6 p.m. today in Brighton Place Library, 999 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda. It is free and open to the public.

His talk follows the release last week of the state Department of Health’s Tonawanda Cancer Study, which found elevated levels of several kinds of cancer in the area. The Clean Air Coalition notes that the Town of Tonawanda has two coal-burning industrial plants, Tonawanda Coke, which uses coal in its process of making coke, and NRG Energy’s Huntley Power Station.
