An armed 43-year-old Dale Drive man surrendered peacefully to Town of Tonawanda police about 9 p.m. Tuesday after police set up for possible negotiations.

The man was taken to Erie County Medical Center for mental evaluation. Police were called to Dale Drive off Ellicott Creek Road about 8:45 p.m. amid reports of a man with a gun in the 100 block of the street. Though a negotiator from the Amherst Police Department was called to the scene, the man surrendered and was taken to the hospital.

The incident came a day after Joe Hollywood, 60, holed up in his Fries Road home causing schools in the area to be locked down. After his house burned to the ground the body of the armed Hollywood, with an oxygen tank nearby was found in the basement of the house.
