An accidental fall appears to have caused the death of a former Kenmore East High School student found Sunday outside his Texas Army barracks.
Spc. Ian Patrick Morgan, 28, assigned to the 56th Signal Company, had attended a party before being found critically injured at the bottom of an outdoor stairwell near his barracks at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Army investigators said Tuesday.
He was pronounced dead at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
While an official cause of death has not been made, early indications show the death was the result of an accidental fall.
“At this point in the investigation, we do not suspect foul play and see no signs of foul play,” said Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army Criminal Investigation Command.
Grey’s statement goes on to say investigators have not completely ruled out foul play in order to conduct a “complete and thorough” investigation.
But the statement points out there is no threat to the San Antonio community, after several media outlets in Texas had reported Morgan suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, among other injuries.
Morgan attended Kenmore East through 2004, and teachers who remembered him described him as polite, respectful and well-liked.
