One of the men accused of looking the other way during a botched asbestos-removal project in Buffalo was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to a year of probation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango said Evan Harnden, a supervisor at JMD Environmental Inc., a now-defunct compliance monitoring company, was sentenced for his previous conviction of aiding and abetting a violation of the Clean Air Act.

Harnden and three other JMD employees were among nine defendants indicted in 2011 and accused of taking part in an unfinished asbestos-removal project at the vacant Kensington Heights public housing complex on Fillmore Avenue.
