Kirk Stauffer of Pine Acres CC in Bradford, Pa., shot a course record 66 in the second round at Whispering Woods Golf Course in Erie, Pa., to clinch the WNYPGA Professional Championship. Stauffer shot 71-66-137 to finish at 7-under par. His closest competitors were Alex Weir of Kahkwa Club of Erie and Eric Mabee of Oak Hill CC, who were at 144 and 145.

All three advanced to the 47th PGA Professional Championship, June 22-25, 2014 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club & Grand Dunes Resort Course, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Elsewhere, Kim Kaul of Gowanda CC and Barbara Pagana of Selinsgrove, Pa., tied for first place with 81s in the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur qualifier at Niagara Falls Country Club. The top two women in the field of nine advanced to the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship on Sept. 21-26 in Cordevalle Golf Course in San Martin, Calif.

It is the fifth time Kaul has qualified for the national event, she’s made the cut four times. It was only her second tournament all season as she’s been slowed by a bad knee. Kaul made her season debut last week at the East Aurora Invitational. Kaul said Seniors are allowed to take carts. “I’m trying to protect it the best I can,” she said.

Steve Ebsary shot a 1-over 73 on his home course to win the WNY Public Links Senior Individual Golf Championship at Glen Oak bettering a field of 77.

Ebsary beat Mike Spanbauer of Hyde Park in a two-hole playoff in which the golfers played No. 9 twice. Both carded a bogey on the first playoff hole, and then Ebsary won it with a par the second time. Spanbauer shot a 3-under 33 on the back to stay in contention.

Rick Wargala won the Snead Flight with a 74, Kevin Mulvey was the Sarazen flight winner at 75 and James Snajczuk won the Jones flight with a 79.
