Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has proclaimed February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month and is inviting New Yorkers to join in a social media campaign to support it.

The campaign, led by the state Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, enables people to show their concern about teen dating violence by taking a photo of themselves holding oversized versions of candy hearts with “I will ...” messages such as “I will talk to my children about healthy relationships.”

The photos can be posted on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #tdvcandyhearts.

The state office’s teen and young adult website, www.respectlove.opdv.ny.gov, and its companion Facebook page offer a variety of resources to help teens, parents and others prevent teen dating violence, as well as assist any who find themselves in an abusive relationship.
