A Buffalo teenager whose attempt to kill a 17-year-old girl failed when his revolver did not fire because he had loaded it with the wrong ammunition was sentenced today to five years in prison.
State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang sentenced Umar Graham, 17, who pleaded guilty last month to attempted second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the June 8 gang-releated shooting attempt on South Park Avenue at Louisiana Street. The judge denied his request for youthful offender status.
Graham admitted pulling the trigger on his revolver at least four times, prosecutors said. He was arrested within minutes of the crime.
Graham had faced up to 25 years in prison, according to Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Paul C. Parisi, of the Tactical Prosecution Unit, and Assistant District Attorney Danielle Soluri, of the Felony Trial Bureau.
