Matt Stasiak of Fox Valley shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday in the first round of the 91st New York State Amateur Championship, good for a tie for third place at Schuyler Meadows Club in Loudonville. Forty players in the 146-player field have to finish their first round after play was suspended Tuesday because of darkness.
Stasiak is one of only eight players who have completed their first round to finish under par, with Victor Fox (Normanside Country Club) the leader after a 4-under 68. Billy Gaffney of Crag Burn is tied for ninth after an even-par round of 72. Thad Wier (Springville CC), is tied for 21st after a 2-over 74. Crag Burn’s Adam Boland is tied for 30th at 3-over through 13 holes of his opening round.
