A two-alarm blaze at a Blasdell apartment building sent as many as 100 volunteer firefighters racing to the scene Friday evening.
The firefighters were called at about 5 p.m. Friday to extinguish the house fire at 3705 South Park Avenue, located between Miriam and Gilbert avenues.
“When we got there the flames were coming out the side window,” said Blasdell Assistant Chief Len Fusco. “It was coming out pretty good.”
The home has four apartments and at least two residents living inside the dwelling, the assistant chief said. No one was injured. The fire appeared to start at the rear of the structure, possibly in an area where a furnace is located, Fusco said.
“We don’t know how it started yet,” Fusco said at the scene.
During the operation, traffic on South Park and nearby streets, including Lake Avenue, was detoured.
