The Collins Regional Historical Society is looking to increase membership as it enters its second year.

A meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the L.K. Painter Community Center, 2355 Main St.

During its first year, the society gathered an extensive digital library – including out-of-print books, area census records and ship manifests. Headstones at several smaller cemeteries have been photographed and burial lists have been compiled. Obituaries and death notices have been found for nearly half of those buried in the Collins Center Cemetery.

Extensive lists of original pioneers also have been gathered.

The group’s goals include continuing research at area cemeteries, re-establishing historical markers and marking the graves of veterans dating back to the Revolutionary War. The society also wants to prepare for the town’s bicentennial in 2021.
