Meals on Wheels for Western New York, which delivers meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities in Buffalo and most of its suburbs, announced that it will expand its service Jan. 1 to areas currently served by Southtowns Meals on Wheels, including Boston, Colden, Concord, Holland and Sardinia.
The expansion is the result of a request from the Erie County Department of Senior Services earlier this year for delivery of meals in the Southtowns. A two-year contract with Meals on Wheels is being drawn up, with the option for two one-year extensions.
Under the new arrangement, all Southtowns Meals on Wheels recipients will continue to receive two meals per day – a hot lunch and cold supper, delivered during the midday hours – and will not need to re-register.
Last year, Southtowns Meals on Wheels served more than 18,000 meals, which were prepared through a contract with Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
