A man accused of conspiring with a Buffalo police officer to operate a marijuana grow operation in South Buffalo pleaded guilty Thursday before Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny.

Robert Osika, 47, admitted tending to about 400 marijuana plants between 2009 and 2012 as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Osika pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture 100 or more marijuana plants and now faces up to 18 months in prison.

The case, which is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola, also includes three other defendants, including former Buffalo Police Officer Jorge I. Melendez.

Defense lawyer Kevin Shelby described the plea agreement as fair given his client’s minor role in the conspiracy.
