OLCOTT – The U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards are currently searching Lake Ontario for a boat reported to be sinking.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a radio call at 2:38 p.m. today from a male boater who said, “Help ... my boat’s going down!”

Detection devices showed the boat was off Olcott at the time of the call, a U.S. Coast Guard officer said.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Niagara and Canadian air and float crews have been searching the lake, from Olcott to the northern suburbs of Toronto, officials said. New York State Park Police searched the upper Niagara River and northern end of Grand Island, the officer said.

It is unknown if there were other passengers on the boat, the Coast Guard said.
