MACHIAS – The Cattaraugus County Museum will mark its 100th anniversary with a special event on Sunday, Sept. 7.

The event, “100 Years of the Cattaraugus County Museum,” will run from noon to 4 p.m. at the museum, located in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, Machias.

Because a large part of the original mission of the museum was to commemorate the county’s Civil War veterans, the Sept. 7 event will include a performance of Civil War brass-band music by the Excelsior Cornet Band; a talk by Allegheny College Professor Ian Binnington on “Earth’s Immortal Sons’: Constructing a Confederate Nation in the Midst of War”; and Civil War re-enactors offering historical interpretations of the experiences of the soldiers at the time.

The event is free to the public.
