The Orchard Park School District is selling its former administration building on Baker Road for $1.14 million to Krog Corp., an Orchard Park developer.
The sale will help pay for a $11.5 million project to relocate the district’s new offices and transportation facility in West Seneca, which occurred last summer.
“We’re very happy with this,” School Superintendent Matthew P. McGarrity said Wedesday. “It follows our plan to sell the building to offset the local portion of cost of the Southwestern Boulevard building.”
The School Board voted, 6-0, to appprove the contract Tuesday night. The old elementary school at 3330 Baker Road had opened in 1976. The property is being acquired by Krog Corp., which is acting through 847 Main Street LLC.
The contingent sale agreement includes a 90-day due diligence review by the town and is predicated on maintaining a long-term lease in place with Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Board of Cooperative Educational Services, which currently rents half of the Baker Road building from the district.
For the past 30 years, the other half of the building had been used to house district administrative offices.
The sale proceeds will target the cost of last summer’s relocation of the district’s Transportation Department from the rear of the Middle School site and district offices to 2240 Southwestern Blvd., a former landscaping business on the West Seneca/Orchard Park town line. District voters in May 2011 approved the project, which is receiving about 70 percent of its funding through state aid.
McGarrity said he is hopeful that the Baker Road property will continue, in part, to be leased to Erie 2 BOCES.
The annual lease payments from BOCES to the Orchard Park School District totaled about $120,000 yearly for leasing half of the building.
At one point last year, the town had expressed interest in buying the building for a combined senior citizens/community center - but later decided against it.
