Lunches are packed, new shoes are tied and summer is over.

Most youngsters throughout Erie and Niagara counties are heading back to school today. Some began Tuesday, and the rest will Thursday.

Classes begin today in 22 school districts in Erie and Niagara counties, including Cheektowaga Central, Akron Central and Tonawanda City School districts.

Catholic schools kicked off the start of the year this morning, too.

This is the first school year of the new consolidated Catholic schools, after 10 schools closed in June,

Today, 37 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Buffalo are opening.

At Ss. Peter & Paul School, in Williamsville, Bishop Richard J. Malone greeted students, families, faculty and staff to mark the start of the new academic year.

On Tuesday, it was back to school for West Seneca, Cleveland Hill, Lake Shore, Hamburg, Ken-Ton and Williamsville schools.
