The Maryvale School Board has approved a teachers retirement incentive that could net four teachers up to $20,000 each for health care costs. Administrators believe that, if successful, the incentive could produce a significant savings for the district.
The incentive is limited to four employees, but the amount is tied to how many teachers accept the offer. If only two teachers accept, they would receive $10,000 toward health care costs. Three teachers would net $15,000 each, and four would receive the full $20,000. In order to qualify, teachers must notify the district of their intention to retire by Feb. 1. Officials said the deal is similar to ones given to the district’s other bargaining units, which imposed limits on the number of employees who could take the incentive.
