What you need to know: Board members said Frontier’s new superintendent, Bret Apthorpe, will make final recommendations on how funds are spent. The School Board looked at cutting nearly 25 positions, including nearly 10 through layoffs. Parents, students and teachers pleaded with the board to retain many programs, but some cuts will be made. Which programs will be affected won’t be known until after Apthorpe joins the district July 1.

Candidates (Elect 2):

• Janet MacGregor Plarr (i), 50, Blasdell village administrator, is the board president who has served on the board for 20 years

• Jack D. Chiappone (i) 65, retired business owner who has five grandchildren in district schools, seeking his second five-year term

• Davis Podkulski, 19, Frontier graduate and current student at the University at Buffalo majoring in political science and business administration

Total budget: $74,271,938, up 1.44 percent

Tax levy*: $36.22 million, up 3.58 percent

Tax levy increase allowed under tax cap: 3.58 percent

Estimated property tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value: $25.97 in Hamburg, up 3.18 percent; and $22.82 in Eden, up 3.15 percent.

Proposition: Spend an estimated $867,290 to buy five 66-passenger buses and three 35-passenger buses.

Polls open: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Hamburg Senior Community Center (former Frontier Community Learning Center), 4540 Southwestern Blvd. Voters are asked to enter through door No. 9.
