What you need to know: District continues to share superintendent with Royalton-Hartland School District, as well as other services, including some special- education programs, in an effort to reduce costs. The tax levy limit allowed under the state tax cap is 45.6 percent, driven by the huge drop in the Barker School District’s PILOT (payment-in-lieu-of-taxes) agreement with the Somerset coal plant (now Upstate New York Power Producers), from the current $4.5 million to $3 million for the 2014-15 school year. But the school district is still anticipating a tax levy increase of just 2 percent.

Candidates (Elect 2):

• John Sweeney Jr. (i), 54, dairy farmer with two children in the district and another who graduated.

• Louis Mead (i), 40, employed by Precious Plating, Inc., Niagara Falls, with one child in the district.
