The second phase of construction work on Kenmore Avenue is ready to begin, Mayor Byron W. Brown announced Tuesday.

Old asphalt will be removed and a new blacktop will be installed on a stretch of slightly more than a mile between Colvin and Elmwood avenues. The work will cost the city about $500,000.

Erie County owns and maintains the north side of Kenmore Avenue, while the city takes care of the south side. Last fall, the county resurfaced 1.11 miles of the street between Fairfield and Colvin avenues.

Next year federal funds will assist in a $5.5 million reconstruction project covering the remaining .94 mile of the project area between Main Street and the railroad tracks near Fairfield. The city and county each will contribute $500,000.
