The New York City publishing company suing Republican Elections Commissioner Ralph M. Mohr has dropped its civil suit.

Without explanation, John Wiley & Sons informed Mohr by email that it is withdrawing its claim that he illegally downloaded a copy of one of its popular “For Dummies” books.

Mohr, who has insisted from Day One that the allegations were a mistake, said the there was no monetary settlement and that Wiley simply agreed to drop the case.

The suit was part of a larger effort by the publishing industry to crack down on copyright pirates.
