A $100,000 Our Town Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts will create a public art project along East and West Ferry streets, Mayor Byron W. Brown announced Thursday. He said it will be “a unique link between the east and west sides of Buffalo.”
The project, initiated by the non-profit group The Friends of the Buffalo Story, will collect personal and community stories along the street. The stories then will form the basis for public artworks.
The project “will create a boulevard of brotherhood across Main Street that will inspire the whole community,” said Mark Goldman, president of The Friends of the Buffalo Story.
In all, the NEA is giving 66 Our Town grants totaling $5.07 million to organizations in 38 states. The Our Town program began in 2011.
