The Buffalo city clerk’s office is accepting applications until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday from University District residents interested in filling a vacant Common Council seat.
The clerk’s office is in Room 1308 in City Hall.
To be eligible, applicants must have lived in the University District for at least one year and must also be a Democrat, the same party as outgoing Council Member Bonnie E. Russell.
A majority of Council members will select Russell’s replacement, who will serve at least until Dec. 31.
A special election for the seat will be held in November, and all Council seats are up for election in 2015.
The Erie County Democratic Committee’s University District members will make a recommendation to the Council, but it is not binding.
The committee will accept resumes until 5 p.m. Jan. 17, and will vote on an endorsement on Jan. 18.
Resumes and cover letters can be sent via email to email@example.com.
Russell left office on Tuesday, before her term was up, to become a legal secretary to Family Court Judge Mary G. Carney.
