A 12-year-old girl suffered an arm injury at the Erie County Fair late Wednesday afternoon, when she attempted to board a swing ride after all other riders had been locked in and the ride began to lift, fair officials said.
The girl and a friend entered the Sky Flyer, on the midway near the grandstand, at about 5:30 p.m., said Jimmy Strates, director of operations for Strates Shows. The two were out of view of the ride attendant, who was returning to the operator’s post, Strates said.
Officials speculate that the girl may have grabbed onto the ride and been lifted several feet before falling. The ride’s emergency stop was activated, Strates added.
The girl was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
In response to the accident, a second attendant has been assigned to the ride as a safety precaution, said Strates, who added, “There is no mechanical problem with the ride.”
