If you’re going to drink this Fourth of July, then you’d better not get behind the wheel.

State Police announced a statewide crackdown on drunk driving and other dangerous driving practices for this holiday weekend.

Sobriety checkpoints, DWI patrols and underage drinking details are among the plans.

“The State Police will be out during this campaign enforcing the laws in order to keep us all safe during this Fourth of July holiday,” said Major Michael Cerretto. “Driving while intoxicated or distracted is not only dangerous to the motoring public, it is also dangerous while boating, riding dirt bikes or ATV’s.”

Last year, State Police issued more than 10,000 traffic tickets during the Fourth of July.

Trooper pointed out that the Fourth of July holiday is an especially deadly period. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 179 people were killed in crashes during the holiday in 2012. Forty-four percent of those deaths involved alcohol-impaired drivers.
