A woman who wouldn’t let a passenger out of her sport utility vehicle as she drove recklessly around Buffalo has been charged with assault, Buffalo police said Thursday.

Authorities said Ellen Lucas, 62, of Dodge Street, drove throughout the West Side and North Buffalo for 20 minutes, swerving in and out of traffic and running red lights, to prevent the passenger from leaving the car. While Lucas drove south on Washington Street, she stopped briefly near East Tupper Street and the victim attempted to leave the vehicle, police said.

Lucas sped off, hitting him with the passenger with the door frame, sending him to the ground, police said.
