An Attica man pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to attempting to receive child pornography.
Paul J. Havlen, 48, posted an ad on Craigslist two years ago seeking a young man interested in smoking marijuana and engaging in sexual activity, U.S. Attorney Williams J. Hochul Jr. said. Between late October 2011 and Dec. 18, 2011, Havlen exchanged graphic emails and text messages with a person he believed to be 15 years old, asking for photos of arranging for a rendezvous at a park in Attica, prosecutors said.
When Havlen arrived at that park on Dec. 19, 2011, he discovered the 15-year-old was actually an undercover police officer.
Both the FBI and Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, Hochul said.
