NEWFANE – Niagara County sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate an animal problem in the 6900 block of Charlotteville Road just before 10 p.m. Sunday and found two dogs that are believed to have been left without food and water for a week.

The homeowner is hospitalized and told deputies that her daughter was supposed to be caring for her dogs. Deputies said the daughter is believed to be in Canada and could not be located.

One of the two dogs was taken by a family friend and the other was turned over to the Newfane dog warden.

No charges were immediately reported.
