NIAGARA FALLS – Two tourists from Pennsylvania put themselves in peril Wednesday afternoon when they went out on a closed off, ice-covered section of Terrapin Point at Niagara Falls State Park, park police said.

Walter Gladkowski, 48, of Export, Pa. and Gregory Payne, 46, of Lancaster Pa. were spotted at about 3 p.m. by a park employee who snapped their photo on his cell phone and called the police, officials said. The men, who apparently didn’t know each other, were given tickets for being on property closed to the public.

Park police cautioned people interested in seeing the partially frozen falls to stay away from areas that have been closed off. “It’s solid snow and ice. You could slip and go right off,” said Park Police Dispatcher Crisanne Conley.
