The 24-year-old Liberty Cab Company driver who was shot during a holdup attempt late Tuesday on Clay Street remained in critical condition Wednesday in the Intensive Care Unit at Erie County Medical Center.
The cabbie’s 23-year-old male passenger, also shot in the holdup attempt, was treated at the medical center and discharged early Wednesday. The cab driver had been on the job for only about two months.
Police said that just before 10 p.m. Tuesday one or two gunmen approached the parked cab and demanded cash before shooting the men. The victims’ names were not released.
Police said the operators of the taxi company are considering switching to a credit card-only payment system for future fares to prevent similar holdup attempts. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the Buffalo Police Confidential TIPCALL line at 716-847-2255.
